Passwords
Please bring in any usernames and passwords that we may require to fix your computer. For example, if you are experiencing email issues - we will most likely need your internet username and password.
Bug and Virus Cleaning
There is unfortunately no quick fix for a bug/virus infested computer. You need to be prepared to live without your computer for approximately 3-5 working days. Please also be aware that sometimes a computer can get so badly damaged by viruses that your Windows software becomes corrupt and requires a repair or reformat.
Multiple Logon Users
Please be aware that if your computer has more than one Windows Logon users that we will sometimes have to delete all but one user to complete the job (mainly for bug/virus cleaning). The users that require deletion will have their My Documents and Desktop files saved but will lose any other information that is specific to their logon user (i.e. email) unless you let us know you require otherwise. Please let us know who the main user is that you would like saved in this situation.
Hardware Issues
A computer that exhibits hardware faults like random shut downs, freezing, blue screens, loss of video sync etc. can sometimes require a lot of testing to determine where the fault lies and in turn whether the fault has been rectified by our servicing. PC's with hardware faults often require several cold boots (i.e. starting pc up first thing in the morning after having no power connected overnight).
Error Messages
Give us as much information as possible. Please write down what you are specifically having problems with and any error messages that you may be experiencing. Coming in with a fault description like "it just has errors come up all the time" is unfortunately not the most helpful information as we can look at a computer and see all sorts of things that we recognise as problems but turn out to not be the problem want us to fix.
Data Backup and Recovery
You should back up your important information to CD, DVD, external hard drive or USB flash drive regularly (i.e. photos, documents, accounting files etc.). We offer data backup and recovery services but it can work out very expensive. Data backup charges depend on how much data you need backed up. There are occasions where data is not accessible due to corruption or encryption issues and can only be retrieved through a very expensive and time consuming data recovery process. Avoiding the stress of expensive data backing up and recovery is simple - regularly back up your important data/files.
Reformatting Windows
Sometimes a computer will require a complete reformat if it has been too badly damaged by viruses, had incorrect file deletions, become very slow and clogged with programs/updates and various other issues. Reformatting involves completely erasing everything on your hard drive and reloading your Windows software and device drivers. We can only offer reformatting services when you have your original Windows certificate of authenticity (COA) usually located on the top or side of your pc case. Please make sure you have all your important data backed up before requesting a reformat.
